Mostly cycling and walking this week, but also a visit to the bar Malatesta in the centre of Alicante, and a Sunday lunch with our friends.

I started the week with a ride on the Vía Verde on Sunday morning. Sometimes I like to “play in the dirt” on my mountainbike for a change from my usual road cycling routine. And there are nice views of vineyards:

Almond trees are also a common sight:

My version of the lone tree (channelling the Lone Cypress in California):

Besides the majestic views of the mountains, there are also pretty little things on the ground:

I cycle on the Vía Verde, but many people walk instead. The surface is good (hard-packed gravel), and the incline gentle, around 2%, so it is very good for families, whether on foot…

Lots of cute four-legged family members too:

In the afternoon we had lunch at Balu’s house:

His people were there too:

As usual with these lunches, there was a lot of food:

Afterwards, the humans want to relax in front of the TV but Balu has other ideas:

Early Wednesday morning, on the way to work I stopped by the beach. It was windy, and it had rained during the night. The light was nice:

A lone paddle boarder was dealing with the waves as best he could:

Friday afternoon, on my way home from work, I stopped for a beer at Malatesta, my favourite bar in Alicante thanks to its nice atmosphere and, above all, excellent beer selection:

While drinking my pint, I was entertained by this couple helping decorate the wall:

The first Sunday in May is Mother’s Day here in Spain, and we had decided to do a hike on the Vía Verde and then have lunch in a restaurant in one of the nearby towns. So on Saturday I devoted my bike ride to a bit of reconnaissance; I wanted to find a good spot to park on the road that in places runs alongside the Vía Verde, so that we could park optimally the following day and hike the nice parts of the trail. The road on the right is where I was cycling, on the left is the A7 motorway towards Alicante:
