My friends from Denmark were still with me at the beginning of the week. Last week I showed them around Alicante. This week, I took them on a drive in the mountains to show them the countryside that I usually explore on my bicycle.

On the way from El Campello to Aigües there is a cluster of post boxes which I have photographed from time to time. Notice the Dutch names:

Boy texting on the steps of the church in Aigües:

At the entrance to Aigües there is a large mural, which I usually just pass on my bike. But this time we were on foot, so I actually took a closer look:

This is not typical imagery in a small Spanish town, but Aigües is not typical. It is inland and in many ways life is very old-style, but it is close enough to the coast (about 10 km) that foreigners and modernity and quirkiness are also part of life:

Another mural, this time outside a house on the main street in Aigües, called (what else?) Calle Mayor, or rather Carrer Major, in the local dialect Valenciano:

We continued from Aigües towards another mountain village, Relleu. On the way we passed these blooming almond trees:

We then drove down to the coast at Villajoyosa. The beach was almost empty:

I have this thing about murals. Here is another one, on the beach promenade in Villajoyosa:

Monday evening I came home from work to find my friend Beata and my wife in full swing in the kitchen:

It is artichoke season around here, so they are nice and cheap:

While waiting for the food, I amused myself taking close-up portraits of Cheeta who, as usual, was under the table, hoping for accidental drops:

Cheeta has nice eyelashes:

The table has a glass top, making it easier for Cheeta to see:

Lili the Swiss Goat Cheese Pusher making her weekly sales call at the office. She is very shy about being photographed, so I keep trying:

Lili’s wares. She makes the basic cheese from her goats’ milk and mixes the cheeses to order every week:

On Saturday I want on a longish bike ride (86 km) south of Alicante. One of my two brief stops was in the harbour of Santa Pola:

As in every fishing harbour, there are cats here too:
Interesting as usual. I loveed the murals.
