Week 37: Moraira and cycling

Another week spent at home, just working and cycling. However, we visited some friends up the coast at the weekend, and we had a wine tasting at work. So it was a nice week, overall.

A picture taken at a small grocery store just outside Elche, where I usually stop for a drink when I am out cycling on weekends in that area. The local cats sometimes hang around, waiting for someone to come and eat breakfast (and share it with them):

Indeed, now somebody new has arrived, so I am suddenly less interesting:

In the afternoon that Sunday, we drove the 70 km up to Moraira where some English friends who live in Zurich have a vacation home. Whenever they are down here, we usually go and visit them. Their apartment is not on the beach; instead, it is in the hills surrounding the town, with this view from the terrace:

Michael is a trained chef, and even if he is just grilling simple lamb chops, his food is invariably delicious:

And then dusk fell and it was time to go home. But before leaving, we were treated to the full moon over Moraira:

Back to work on Monday morning. But before going to the office, I do 35 km on the bike. It may be September, but it is too hot in the afternoon to cycle after work, so I get out early instead. One advantage of that is that I get rewarded with views like this during the first 10 km along the beach:

Some days there are morning clouds, a sign that autumn is sort of, maybe, on its way. It makes for more interesting light when I walk the dog:

Tuesday afternoon we had the monthly wine tasting at the office. A nice touch–each place setting had a small plate of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes:

The bodeguero explaining his wine making philosophy. We were tasting wines from a bodega right here in Alicante province, Vins del Comtat. All the wines are excellent and all are under €10 a bottle. The Alicante denomination is not famous but it is in fact one of the oldest wine-growing areas in Europe:

On Saturday I was out cycling in the mountains again, and so were other cyclists:

My colleague Beatrice is a frequent “victim” of my photography, even though we no longer work in the same department and do not see each other that often. The other day she got confirmed in a new appointment, which pleased her–and those of us who like her (which means most people at the office):
