The first week of December is the week when the Christmas celebrations really take off, in various forms, and most of the images for this week are related to the holidays in one way or another. There is also a fair amount of food porn.

One early morning, while walking my dog, I realised that the naked trees in our local park could look quite gloomy in the right light. I tried it both in colour and black & white:

One of the pleasant consequences of my multicultural background is that I am a “member” of several national groups in the office. And so on Wednesday I was part of a traditional Danish Christmas lunch (although we did not get drunk, as often happens in Denmark…):

Last week was also “Solidarity Week” in our office. Basically, various charities are allowed to set up stands selling stuff for the benefit of good causes. One of the initiatives came from within the office–the launch of a new drug called “Sonrisol”, a word play on the Spanish word for “smile” (sonrisa). People would pay 5 Euro for the privilege of being photographed with a red nose and reindeer horns, with the money going to pay for school lunches for poor children in Alicante. I was one of the photographers who volunteered a couple of hours of my time for this.

Pierre and Jessica; Jessica would serve as the saleswoman the next day, grabbing victims as they walked past:

Another seller, Teresa, putting the horns on a new victim:

Rubbing noses; I am very pleased with this image, as the pose was my idea:
On Friday evening we went out for dinner with friends at a new Japanese restaurant which fuses sushi with Mediterranean flavours.

The sashimi was delicious:

The sushi with tempura edge was OK but a bit bland:

But for me the star was this sushi with Pedro Ximenez sauce–a perfect blend of sushi and tapa:
The final two images are from Saturday’s bicycle ride to Santa Pola. This is what winter on the beach looks like.

Nathan–love the pix! Great idea for charity fundraising! I also really liked your Liverpool pictures. Quite the tour–great photos, always appreciated.
How old is Cheeta? He looks as if he’s quite a good pup!
Thanks again…
Best to you
