Early morning on June 11th I found myself in Amsterdam. I love cities in the early morning; the streets are peaceful and empty, one can really sense the city waking up. It is a special atmosphere, especially when it is between 6 and 7 on a Sunday morning in the summer.
One can see traces of whatever went on the night before and guess at the story behind this scene:

A restaurant employee hoses down the sidewalk in front of the restaurant:

One of the many canal streets, devoid of people at this early hour:

More traces of Saturday night, on top of a poster advertising some kind of leftist event:

A bicycle left on an Amsterdam street overnight is sure to be used for various unintended purposes:

After prowling the streets a bit, I wandered over to the Vondelpark, a beautiful oasis on the south side of the city centre. I was amused by this sign at the entrance, outlining the various prohibitions:

At this early hour, the park was quiet and peaceful, in contrast to the more or less unsavoury things that go on there at night. Here a man is reading a newspaper in the morning sunshine:

A couple is walking through the park:

…while another couple is busy making out on a bench:

The frist one tells a lot.
Amazing what a bra can do even if it’s something that slipped off a shopping bag. 🙂
