A week of cycling and eating, it seems.

I do not stop much during my pre-work rides during the week, but when I see this kind of sunrise over the 16th century guard tower in El Campello, I cannot help myself:

On Thursday, I went for lunch with a couple of my colleagues. The occasion was to say goodbye to Fouzya, a Belgian lady (of Moroccan origin) whose contract is ending, so she is leaving us after 10 years. I chose the TK Arabescro restaurant in the centre of town:

The food in this restaurant is a feast for the palate and for the eyes:

This week I also made a new friend. My wife and I went for lunch with a Puerto Rican woman she has met on the golf course. Since my wife is also Puerto Rican, the interest to meet is evident. Yvonne came to Spain to study in Madrid many years ago and ended up staying, so she has lived virtually all her adult life here. She lives in the centre of Alicante, conveniently close to the bar Malatesta, where we went for a drink:

Before that, we had lunch at Enso Sushi, a nice restaurant nearby, actually owned by Japanese people (most sushi restaurants around here are owned by Chinese). The food was delicious and photogenic there too:

Friday of this week was the last Friday of January, so we had the usual drink at the office; here, Kasia catches me sneaking a photo of her and Eri:

Juan talking with our Moroccan trainee Said (we are able to take in a limited number of trainees who are not EU citizens):
4_15 I woke up Sunday morning to rather cloudy and cool weather. I decided to cycle to Villajoyosa, about 25 km up the coast, even though there was a chance of getting some rain along the way (as it happened, there was very little). As things warmed up, I stopped to switch gloves, and took in the view of Alicante and El Campello in the distance:

I stopped at the almost deserted beach Playa Bol Nou just south of Villajoyosa. Looking north, there is this nice rock, obscuring the view of the Villajoyosa beach:

Looking south, Alicante in the far distance:

In Villajoyosa, the beach itself was empty:

The clouds looked more and more ominous:

But the promenade was quite crowded, including a surprise, a group of people having a dance lesson under the leadership of an instructor:

People (and dogs) stopped to have a look at the unusual spectacle:

I finished the week with a walk on our own beach late in the afternoon. The sky was far from its usual boring blue, but even those clouds in the end delivered very little of their payload:
